If you’re short on time or just aren’t in the mood for an epic ride, this quick gravel jaunt will get you a nice climb with great views of Fishers Peak as well as the city and mountains to the west, plus a bonus visit to a ghost town.

This route features some of the best scenery in the area even though it takes you east, away from the mountains.

A nice easy ride through town along the bike path. Look out for deer and other critters, or take a break by the Purgatoire river.

This big ride follows a good portion of the roads used in the Pony Xpress and Rad gravel races. You’ll traverse pavement and gravel through long, steady climbs, epic views, and lengthy descents as you head west towards the Huajatolla (or Spanish Peaks).

Burro Canyon is a quick local loop with that offers a nice slice of gravel and a solid climb. It can be ridden clockwise or counterclockwise, though climbing Burro Canyon lets you soak in the scenery a bit longer.

The Truck Wall descent! This is a Las Animas county iconic route. Discover what Trinidad gravel is all about on this scenic ride through the canyons northwest of town.

This is one of Trinidad’s classic routes, taking you along The Highway of Legends past Cokedale. You’ll escape the pavement for gravel bliss at Madrid Bridge, tackling a solid climb before descending down to Long’s Canyon Trail, where you’ll enter Trinidad Lake State Park.

This all-day ride will take you east past Barela and Trinchera, where you’ll dive south to cross the border and ride up through Sugarite State Park in New Mexico before descending rugged Jeep trail down San Francisco Pass back toward Trinidad. With a mix of pavement, gravel, and two-track, this is a beast of a route that gives you almost everything the region has to offer.
